Children learn through all of their senses (with the rare exceptions of children who have severe sensory impairment). • Children make sense of new experiences by relating them to previous learning. • Children develop their understanding through talking. • Children have different preferred learning styles and learn at different rates. • Children may move across subject boundaries as they learn. • Children learn best when they can make sense of what they do through involvement in planning and reflections.
These are the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies at Key Stages 1 and 2 (the Primary Strategy) and the Key Stage 3 Strategy for secondary-aged pupils at Key Stage 3. These strategies provide materials and activities aimed at improving pupils’ literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. You may be asked to use some of these activities designed specifically for pupils who are low achievers and who may have some special educational needs.
