The overall system architecture of the IP NSAD platform is shown in Figure 1, which presents the various system components that make up an anomaly detector. As will be explained in detail, these components are responsible for gathering network performance data from network elements or probes (samplers), numerically and arithmetically processing the gathered data (filters), statistically analyzing the gathered data (rule generators), and finally performing real-time anomaly detection (detectors).
