The experiments showed that the proposed image retrieval system can reasonably retrieve object images of the same semantic class but visually disparate to the query images. Several open issues remain. First, the visual synset does not incorporate spatial inter-relation among visual words, which is an important characteristic for many object classes. Second, the proposed system does not include any relevance feedback mechanism, which is reported to be effective in improving retrieval performance.
