Children learn through all of their senses (with the rare exceptions of children who have severe sensory impairment). • Children make sense of new experiences by relating them to previous learning. • Children develop their understanding through talking. • Children have different preferred learning styles and learn at different rates. • Children may move across subject boundaries as they learn. • Children learn best when they can make sense of what they do through involvement in planning and reflections.

These are the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies at Key Stages 1 and 2 (the Primary Strategy) and the Key Stage 3 Strategy for secondary-aged pupils at Key Stage 3. These strategies provide materials and activities aimed at improving pupils’ literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
